PCB oil removal in North Macedonia

Identification, sampling and safe removal of PCB oil from transformers, capacitors and hydraulic systems. ADR transport and documented disposal at licensed facilities — in line with the Stockholm Convention. 17 years of experience, since 2009.

PCB oil removal
safe and lawful

PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) are synthetic compounds used for decades in transformers, capacitors, hydraulic systems and as an insulating medium. They are toxic, carcinogenic and extremely persistent in the environment — which is why the Stockholm Convention lists them among the priority persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that must be removed and destroyed under a special procedure.

Our team handles the full cycle — from identifying the equipment and taking samples, through analysis at accredited laboratories (the legal threshold is 50 ppm), to dismantling, ADR transport and handing the oil over to a licensed facility that destroys it at temperatures above 1100°C. The client receives full documentation for regulatory inspections.

We work with ELEM, industrial companies, local electricity distributors and private owners of older transformers. PCB work is always scheduled during equipment downtime — with no disruption to production.

What's included in
PCB oil removal

The full cycle — identification, sampling, dismantling, transport, documented destruction.

Equipment identification

Inspection of transformers, capacitors and hydraulics — we establish whether PCB content is suspected.

Sampling

Professional on-site sampling of the oil — no oil loss and no interruption to equipment operation.

Laboratory analysis

Accredited laboratory — analysis by the GC-ECD method, detection limit 1 ppm. Results in 5–10 days.

Safe draining

PCB oil is drained from transformers into sealed ADR containers with no release into the environment.

ADR transport

Certified vehicles and ADR-licensed drivers — transport to a licensed facility in the country or the EU.

Documentation

DKO waste tracking forms, laboratory reports, destruction certificates — everything for regulatory inspections.

Questions
we are asked most often

What is PCB oil and why is it dangerous?
PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) are synthetic compounds used for decades in transformers and capacitors because of their good insulating properties. They are toxic, persistent in the environment and classified as hazardous waste — they must be removed and disposed of under a special procedure.
How do you find out whether the oil contains PCB?
We take a sample of the oil on site and send it to an accredited laboratory for GC-ECD analysis. The legal threshold is 50 ppm. Any oil above this value is treated as hazardous waste.
How is PCB oil disposed of?
PCB oil cannot go to conventional disposal — it is destroyed only at licensed facilities at high temperatures (above 1100°C). We arrange ADR transport to a licensed facility and provide all the accompanying documentation.
How long does the removal process take?
Identification and sampling 1 day, analysis 5–10 working days; dismantling and transport depend on the quantity of oil — usually completed within one working day per site.
Do you work in line with the Stockholm Convention?
Yes. The whole procedure complies with the Stockholm Convention and the Rulebook on the handling of PCBs and PCB-containing equipment. The client receives full documentation for regulatory inspections.
